Last week Mercedes revealed the specs for their new modes in a video and we’re going to go over them and analyze it.
Let’s start with the big numbers as they’re the most exciting when it comes to supercars.
The engine in the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will be a 4.0 liter, twin-turbocharged V-8, motorsport-derived that outputs a whapping amount of 730 bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque.
It has only 40 horsepower less than the exclusive Lamborgini Aventador SVJ which is impressive the engine being almost 40% smaller than the huge 6.5 liters on the Lambo.
The motorsport side of the engine is the flat-plane crankshaft that got used in the beastly V-8 used in the AMG GT Black Series and to maximize the power they dismissed the 90-degree cross-plane crankshafts for the motorsport 180-degree flat-plane crankshafts specially developed for maximum power output from turbocharged air.
The flat-plane was also used in International GT Challenge racing and F1 for years now, however, with high performance comes a high price and the system has only been used for hypercars and motorsports until now.
The beast has a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that helps the car control and propels from 0 to 60 in just 3.2 seconds reaching 124 MPH in under 9 seconds top speed being 202 MPH.
Mercedes also released some interesting facts about the build of the car and the chassis saying that the whole car will be stiffened by a carbon fiber cross tunnel, a thing they got directly from the GT3 racing.
The carbon fiber tunnel is placed under the torque tunnel right where the driveshaft runs and connects both sides of the car together stiffening up to 7.5% more from side to side.
The rigidity boost isn’t as useless as some think, the fact that the transmission is mounted to the rear axle makes the car more unstable and the 7.5% boost of rigidity helps keep any loss of traction or torque under control and any body twists when the engine is fully throttled.
No price tag has been released yet but it is rumored to surpass the 200.000 euros tag which is about over 226.000 USD.
The car isn’t designed just for the track but road-legal too, so you can drive your track monster on any road you want without being concerned about legal facts as the car comes stock perfectly road legal.
