Hyperion Plans Hydrogen Supercar!

Hyperion is a company from Orange, California that plans to unveil a supercar fueled by Hydrogen in August.

The new XP-1 was released in previews of a series of teaser photos, the car featuring a retro design and being in development since 2016 and was originally due to be released in New York this April at the International Auto Show, that unfortunately turned out to be canceled due to the pandemic.

The company fully claims the car will feature a zero-emission, hydrogen-electric powertrain that was derived from development projects of aerospace industry spacecrafts, the XP-1 being the first Hydrogen car ever built and it’s likely to be an extended-range electric car with the Hydrogen fuel stack serving as a range extender.

The customers are thinking where do they get access to this Hydrogen that powers the car and how expensive will it be. Hyperion has established a separate group, Hyperion Energy which is planned to supply the Hydrogen across the country from the solar farm in Hyperion’s teaser video, and the Hydrogen is expected to be extracted from water with the help of solar energy.

The company was founded back in 2011 and they have over 150 staff members and they claim they’re also involved in the aerospace industry, according to their website.

This is stated to provide a greener alternative to petrol and diesel supercars, as well as being more reasonable than battery-electric supercars such as the Lotus Evija and Rimac C_Two because customers won’t have to bother as much about the range and recharging times as this car manufacturer claims the Hyperion XP-1 is going to charge in 3 minutes.

A comprehensive, haunched front end shows a resemblance to the Bugatti Veyron, while its form, previewed earlier this year, suggests it will utilize a coupé-style tilted roofline and an arched rear. It’s unclear whether it features two or four seats.

Hyperion remains tight-lipped about the XP-1’s performance, claiming entirely that it will be way more than a match for the pace of modern supercars.

Following the coronavirus-induced cancellation of the New York motor show, where the XP-1 was first meant to be unveiled, the supercar will now be revealed online in August.

Pricing and production specifications have yet to be confirmed, but it can be anticipated to be sold in remarkably limited numbers, given its claimed performance potential and complex make-up.
