MANSORY and restraint don’t usually appear in the same sentence. This is the company that has spent years covering supercars in carbon fiber, fitting enormous wings and creating interiors capable of making a nightclub look conservative.
Its latest Porsche project is therefore rather surprising. MANSORY calls it a Softkit.
The package was developed for the Porsche 911 Turbo S, Type 992.2, and instead of turning the entire car into something almost unrecognizable, MANSORY allows customers to select individual exterior, wheel and interior upgrades.
It’s tuning à la carte, meaning that the body modifications are still unmistakably MANSORY.
There’s a full-carbon front lip with side extensions and flaps, carbon mirror caps, side skirts and new trim surrounding the rear air intakes.
At the back, customers can add a larger two-piece spoiler and redesigned diffuser. That’s hardly invisible.
But compared with some of MANSORY’s complete conversions, the underlying Porsche is still immediately recognizable. That seems to be the point.
The company says it developed the Softkit in response to increasing customer demand for something elegant, customizable and relatively straightforward to install.
In other words, apparently even some MANSORY customers occasionally look at a giant carbon wing and say, “Maybe not today.”
The wheels are new too. MANSORY’s forged FS.5 design measures 21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear. They’re fitted with 255/30 ZR21 and enormous 335/25 ZR22 performance tires respectively.
A carbon-fiber outer ring can also be painted to match or contrast with the rest of the car. What MANSORY hasn’t done is chase another ridiculous four-digit horsepower number. And that’s important.
The current 911 Turbo S is already enormously fast, and the Softkit’s purpose isn’t to transform its drivetrain. The emphasis here is bodywork, wheels, suspension components and interior customization rather than turning the Porsche into another headline-grabbing 1,000-horsepower monster.
There’s something refreshing about that, especially because modern tuning has become obsessed with numbers.
Eight hundred horsepower becomes 900. Nine hundred becomes 1,000. Eventually the figures become so detached from anything remotely usable on public roads that another 50 horsepower barely matters.
The 911 Turbo S has never really needed that treatment. Its entire appeal comes from combining supercar performance with the strange ability to behave like an ordinary car when required.
MANSORY’s Softkit preserves more of that identity than one might expect.
Inside, customers can still go as wild as their bank account and taste permit. MANSORY offers individually configurable materials, colors and trim, and the demonstration vehicle shows several available upgrades.
That’s probably where the word “restraint” should be used cautiously. However, give a customer enough leather colors and carbon fiber and anything can happen.
Still, the philosophy behind this package makes sense. Not every owner wants their modified 911 to announce itself from three streets away.
Some, simply want a Turbo S that looks different from the one parked beside it. And MANSORY offering that option may be the biggest surprise of all.
