A Ferrari with a naturally aspirated V12 hardly needs help making itself heard. The 12Cilindri Spider already has a 6.5-litre engine, a retractable hardtop and enough performance to make most tuning projects seem unnecessary.

NOVITEC has decided there’s still room for improvement.

The German specialist has introduced a complete customization package for Ferrari’s open-top grand tourer. It includes carbon-fibre bodywork, new wheels, lowered suspension and an exhaust system that can even be finished in gold.

Yes, actual gold.

The optional INCONEL exhaust uses 999 fine gold plating, partly to improve heat dissipation. It’s an extravagant detail, although probably not the strangest thing someone could order for an expensive Ferrari.

The exhaust itself is more interesting.

NOVITEC fits actively controlled valves, allowing the V12 to produce a quieter note when required. Open them, and the engine gets a more aggressive soundtrack.

Considering that the 12Cilindri Spider already has twelve cylinders and no turbochargers, that should be quite an experience.

The company also offers sports catalysts, although it hasn’t announced a complete engine power upgrade for this particular package.

Instead, much of the work concerns the bodywork.

There’s a new carbon front spoiler, revised air-intake surrounds and additional carbon pieces around the bonnet and front fenders. At the back, NOVITEC has fitted a three-piece rear spoiler and a matching diffuser.

These aren’t merely decorative additions. NOVITEC says the components were developed with aerodynamic efficiency and high-speed stability in mind.

Then come the wheels.

Developed with Vossen, the new NF12 design measures 21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear. Tyres are 275 mm wide up front and 325 mm at the back.

NOVITEC also lowers the car by approximately 30 mm using sports springs.

That’s a noticeable change for a grand tourer, particularly one designed to cover long distances rather than spend every weekend on a circuit.

Inside, customers can order custom leather and Alcantara upholstery in practically any colour combination.

There’s something appealing about the restraint shown elsewhere, though.

NOVITEC hasn’t replaced the V12 or attempted to turn the Spider into a completely different machine. The modifications concentrate on appearance, sound and chassis details.

Whether the carbon additions improve Ferrari’s original design is another question. But the exhaust is difficult to ignore.

After all, anyone ordering a gold-plated exhaust for a V12 Ferrari probably isn’t particularly concerned about being subtle.
